What a night.
2am: Woke up with a splitting headache and nausea. Violently ill for an hour. Threw up several times. (Did some research: this is apparently a not-uncommon “healing crisis” (a.k.a. a Herxheimer Reaction) to detoxification.)
8am: After a rough night, all is well now. Started the day with some Earl Grey tea.
12:30pm: Amazingly enough, I haven’t been hungry at all this morning. Finally realized how late it had gotten and drank some vegetable juice (carrot, celery, cucumber, ginger, kale)
2pm: Green tea and some Odwalla Berries Go-Mega (which probably breaks the juice fast rules since I think it’s technically a smoothie)
4pm: More veggie juice, still no feelings of hunger. High energy, feeling great.
6:30pm: Work out at the gym. Feels completely normal.
8pm: green tea
9:30pm: dinner: juice (carrot, parsley, cucumber, celery, radish) and vegetable broth from the juice pulp [Ed. note: making broth from the pulp was a brilliant idea].
11pm: dessert juice (watermelon, grape, lemon, ginger) and mint tea
What have I done to deserve this?
I felt pretty miserable for most of today, but I can’t tell whether it’s because I lost a lot of sleep tending to Sara last night, or whether it’s a result of this farkakteh juice diet (though I think it’s the former). I’m tired and somewhat weak. (But at least I haven’t hurled. :D )
Tonight we noticed that our tongues have some sort of white coating. We’d be worried if we hadn’t read that this is a normal occurrence during a juice fast.
Today’s menu:
Last thing for tonight: I want to give a shout-out to our Breville juicer, which is by far the best Sara and I have ever seen. And we’ve seen several: Acme, Juice Lady, and most recently, Jack LaLanne’s pathetic excuse for a juicer. We happened upon the Breville by accident, and this juice fast would be 30 times harder, were we relegated to using that crappy Jack LaLanne contraption.
